presentation
The Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region occupies an important strategic position in the Mediterranean basin, and represents a link between the Maghreb, Europe, Africa and the Mediterranean Sea. The region extends over an area of 17,262 square kilometers. Its population reached 3,556,729 people according to the 2014 general census.
It is thus considered the third most densely populated region in the Kingdom, with an average population of 206 people per square kilometre

The region includes two prefectures and six municipalities, which are:
Tangier Assilah prefecture
It is located in the far northwest of the country, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, and represents the southern border of the Strait of Gibraltar. Employment includes 762,583 residents (2004).
M'diq Fnideq Prefecture
The M’diq Fnideq prefecture is located in the north of the Kingdom of Morocco and belongs to the province of Tetouan in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region. Population = 135,292
Fahs-Anjra Province
It is located in the northwestern region of Morocco, bordered to the north by the Strait of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea, to the south and west by the prefecture of Tangier-Assilah, and to the east by the governorate of Tetouan.
Al Hoceima Province
Al Hoceima Province is one of the Moroccan provinces located in the north of the Kingdom of Morocco. On the Mediterranean coast. This region includes 395,644 citizens (2004).
Tetouan Province
It is located in the north of the country in the Rif Mountains, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and representing the northern border of the occupied city of Ceuta. The territory includes 613,506 inhabitants (2004).
Chefchaouen Province
The Chefchaouen province is located on the Rif mountain range, which is characterized by difficult terrain and a modern geological structure with limestone, limestone and clay rocks, and rugged paths. As for the city of Chefchaouen, the capital of the region, it is located at an altitude of 600 meters above sea level.
Larache Province
Larache is located about 85 km from Tangier and 105 km from Tetouan in the northwest of the country. It is located on the Atlantic coast, on the left bank of the Locos Valley. On the left bank of the mouth of Lokos lie the ruins of Lyxus.
Ouazzane Province
Ouazzane is a beautiful, small city in the middle of a picturesque natural site dotted with olive trees, and located at the foot of Mount Bouhlal. A city with a spiritual nature, where heavenly religions have coexisted since ancient times.
The region is threatened by the possibility of natural hazards due to its geographical location, as it is one of the regions constantly threatened and exposed to earthquakes, climate change, floods and forest fires. Its severity is exacerbated by continuous soil erosion with negative effects, as well as frequent floods and human activities that negatively affect nature.
It is also noted that the Larache province suffers from high rates of school dropout at all three levels of education.
In this regard, statistics show that the province of Tangier-Assilah includes 46% of these establishments, and 55% of the total capacity, followed by the province of Tetouan, 21%, and the province of Larache, 12%. The regions with the least number of institutions are Al Hoceima Province, 5%, Ouazzane Province, 5%, and Chefchaouen Province, 3%. Regarding the Anjra inspection region, it does not have any institution.
This status is considered a result of the efforts made to equip the region with industrial zones and free zones. The industrial reception areas include more than 900 industrial facilities.
This facility has enabled it to accommodate 11.3% of the companies in the Kingdom, ranking third after the regions of Casablanca-Settat and Rabat-Salé-Kenitra. However, the majority of companies based in the region are small and medium enterprises.
The region also witnesses a weak presence of large companies, as there are only 5% of these 500 companies in the region, and they represent only 2% of the total turnover of these companies at the national level.
This sector, which is of great social importance in the region, represents only a weak percentage of the regional economic fabric. This sector is the second largest labor sector after the trade and services sector. However, the traditional industry represents only 15% of the jobs in the rural world.
The weakness of this sector can be explained by several factors, the most important of which is the difficulty of accessing real estate at reasonable prices, in addition to the stagnation of construction documents, which hinders the dynamism of this sector.
The main handicrafts and traditional products consist of leather products (Tetouan, Tangier, Chefchaouen and Al Hoceima), and textiles and fabrics (Tetouan, Zane, Chefchaouen, Ksar el-Kebir, etc.). Oral cultures are also formed from Al-Aita and Al-Taqtuqa Al-Jabal, Andalusian music (Tetouan, Chefchaouen and Tangier), and Rekada (Al-Hoceima).
